Who comprises the oversight committee for the murals? It seems like an excessive amount of murals for this small historical city. Who is in charge of upkeep as inevitable peeling and fading will compromise the look of the historic downtown area? Can this decision be re-examined, modified or reversed? Who is paying for this in these very difficult time? Do city residents have any say on the content, placement or even need for this amount of paint?

@Ellen Larson The committee consists of local artists, elected officials, community members and the Cultural Coalition (non-profit that advocates for the arts). It meets once a month and addresses many of the questions you've posed here. "inevitable fading and peeling" is an understood forward-looking part of planning public art. Funding has come from private donations, personal donations of artist time and resources, the Cultural Coalition, and some limited ARP funds that are focused on creating public spaces for gathering post-pandemic in line with US Treasury rules. If you would like to be invited to a future committee meeting let us know. Thanks for engaging here - be well, kb

@Kevin Brown the murals are great. Thank you for giving an outlet to local artists and not forcing the bill on tax payers. If I see fundraisers for future city art, I will gladly donate

@Aaron Maxwell make no mistake, this is a situation where success is a function of many parties pursuing the same goal, albeit independently. The singular efforts of property owners looking to refresh (Jubliee Park mural on Castle Church) and grass roots efforts (59 Broadway mural by Carlos Skillz, coordinated by the Norwich Art Collective). Many hands make light work.
