59 Broadway
From "A Walkable Downtown - Lower Broadway Improvements"
Go to the project
At 59 Broadway there is a 3-story brick building that has been vacant for decades. This space is a great opportunity for redevelopment. Arcade/game-focused bars/restaurants are becoming very popular. Perhaps even a game simulator. Like a local, small scaled D&B. There are many successful similar endeavors in New Orleans, LA such as Barcadia or Shamrock.
What are some other ideas that could go in here to serve the community? Maybe an open music stage fixed in a community greenhouse? Wellness center offering meditation spaces, yoga studios, acupuncture/spa, etc. with a reasonable membership? The area lacks access to a grocery store, perhaps a fresh food market/cafe offering sandwiches, coffee, etc. There are multiple floors, maybe certain floors are open for access at certain times of the day (ex. Rooftop or arcade bar on upper floors at night; cafe during business hours). If the building is safe for occupancy something affordable and accessible to many people in the community would be a significant improvement.
