Guest pop ups at the old Friendly's ice cream spot in the park.

From "Envision Norwich! Submit An Idea"

Go to the project

Allow permitted food providers "guest pop up" at the old Friendly's Spot every weekend. Two days Sat & Sun to serve their ethnic cuisine to the park go-ers. They would sign up in advance and pay a deposit for the weekend $75-$100 that would allow them to utilize the facility. The funds from that go back into the building's upkeep. We would need to invest in a grill and cooler, but they get to keep coming back as long as the facility is left clean for the next pop-up. We would post who's coming next week the week before to keep folks interested.

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and there's a long-standing series of Ethnic Festivals at a downtown park that are very popular. That idea could work in Brown Park. The former Friendly's could be utilized for food prep and refreshments with additional food and beverage vendors nearby. The Park Gazebo and a stage like the one used for Rock the Docks could be used for entertainment, and we'd have a more diverse selection of music, food and entertainment. I do like Rock the Docks, but it seems we hear the same bands and the same music all the time, Norwich is more diverse than that - why not use our assets (beautiful park, riverfront access) to not only help established performers but to give up-and-comers a chance to develop their audiences?
