Purchase of Starwood Property For Conversion Into a Roller Rink
From "Envision Norwich! Submit An Idea"
Go to the project
The purchase of Starwood's plaza in Taftville and subsequent conversion into a Community Roller Rink would greatly benefit the Norwich community youth.
By rehabbing or rebuilding the space as a community initiative we can pool the monetary resources of multiple committees, grants, and donations to turn the space into the first community owned and operated Roller Rink.
The work would be completed by volunteers and funded by the aforementioned community resources/ fundraising. It would be overseen by a board of directors in concert with a volunteer committee. Day to day staffing would prioritize work placement of programs in our community.
This would be a space that would capitalize on the amount of revenue the Norwich community is losing to other locations in Connecticut. It would also provide a place for family friendly activities and youth programs!
This property is perfectly situated; has adequate space, is mostly developed, and has a dedicated traffic signal. Additionally, it is on the bus line and close to the major roadways.
Obvious Barriers:
-Currently owned by the dioceses
- Building's condition is questionable
-Project is Costly
We can overcome these obstacles with creative thinking, organization, and a commitment to the betterment of our community!
