Transform Norwich with College Diamond & Three Rivers/Eastern Down Town

From "Post your proposal here and place it on the agenda of Norwich Community Development Corporation"

Go to the project

Some of the greatest cities in America have college presence in the center of their cities. A few decades ago Three Rivers Community College almost ended up in downtown Norwich. Now is the time to take a large investment and transform a few buildings into educational centers.

This influx of the colleges diverse population would generate a customers to enjoy the restaurants, pubs, library, stores, and future businesses. This will also support new residential housing, the marina, and transportation center.

Norwich Public Utilities did push for Norwich to be a Google Wi-Fi hub, but we were not selected. Make down town a WI-FI zone to support the educational and business communities.

Downtown Norwich has been blessed to keep much of it's historical look with nice murals. Many other communities have lost this historical image and I know our future is BRIGHT!

!!!THINK BIG!!!

THINK BIG??? I would prefer that we think realistically. Norwich has too many "projects", none of which have changed the landscape of the city in a good way. Let's complete at least ONE existing project and then move onto another one. I always ask "What is the PLAN?"

@Joanne Philbrick thanks for the feedback always appreciated anyone who speaks up and is open to look at every proposal from different directions. Well Hartford provided hundreds of millions annually and 500m+ to the city of Hartford. So with billions in surplus why not the rose of New England, which just so happens has the two largest casinos within a stones throw. After visiting a few places around the world I do think the downtown has improved. The seasonal and community driven events are awesome, many of the restaurants and pubs have brought in a positive nightly vibe. I actually appreciate that the city has kept it's historical look. Sending an battalion of WWII Veterans to DC was thinking big. WE DID IT AND CONTINUE TO SERVE! Huurraaahhhhhh...

@Joanne Philbrick what is one of the existing projects you talk about? Murals on the buildings +, next generation being creative on St Patrick's and other community events, NPU + (quick response time/revenue/city utilities), NFA/Tech +, NCDC, Historical City Hall, transportation center capabilities +, Greek/Italian/Russian/Polish/Hattian cultural events +, Volunteer Fire Departments +, Three Rivers+, Police Department creditability+, Norwich Veterans Council+, Social Service infrastructure+, St. Patricks/Churches +, recognized as one of the primary cities in Eastern Connecticut. I do believe some of the burdens from state mandates in general hurt economic expansion. New Year I'm staying positive and optimistic as it's in DNA. I've always believed that the people can do more then any government. Look at Ukraine....

It also would make sense for the City to continue to invest in it's wonderful 3 rivers walks to the falls. Norwich's citizens and the city resources offer the Winter Festival, Fourth of July, Greek/Italian/Irish/Rose Arts and other Festivals. So the cultural foundation is there, but it would take an all in effort from the state, community, NCDC, and non-government orgs/non profits to get us to the promise land. THINK BIG!
