New Downtown Pocket Park!
We need your help naming this new outdoor space!

BEFORE

AFTER
63 Broadway has been underutilized and neglected for as long as Norwich can remember. We have set out to change that narrative, creating a place where the community can enjoy music, food, and the abundant art that intertwines throughout Norwich. Our goal is to bring people together and create meaningful memories.
The space in its current state has been cleared out and outfitted with chairs and picnic tables. These changes proved impactful with the recent Multicultural Festival held on August 26th. We have taken note of what people want in Norwich and having a performance area and outdoor dining is only the tip of the iceberg.

NCDC Community Development Specialist Lucas Kaiser coordinated with Public Works, and they graciously helped us clear out the corner lot and put down recycled road millings prepping the space for the public to enjoy.
We fitted the space with picnic tables provided by the Mohegan Tribe, plants donated by American Landscape Lawn and Science, and painting done by Sarah Falman-Florez and Jannette Velez-Lozada. These new additions enhanced and emphasized the Norwich Arts Collective Sponsored mural, "Metamorphosis" by Carlitos Skillz. Without the help from all these people, this progress wouldn't have been possible in such a short time.
This isn't the end of our journey with this space, we have future plans to further develop the space to even better serve our community's needs and wants. We've listened to the community and created a place that allows the local community to express themselves with music, dance, and art. The picture below is a loose concept and we are asking the community to let us know their thoughts and ideas.

Pocket Parks are small outdoor public spaces, often only the size of a residential lot or smaller. These inviting and safe spaces, often found in urban settings, offer a variety of user experiences, including a place to meet friends, have lunch, take a break from shopping, or unwind after a long day.
