Mirelis Miranda-Lopez2 years ago As a mother of swimmers we are looking for a competitive pool where our kids can learn, practice and compete all kind of swim sports. Unfortunately we don't have any kind of competitive pool in our town. Students from our High School need to travel 30-45 minutes to practice and learn competitive swimming. Please, our kids and youth needs a Sport Center where they can spend time, learn new skills and develop more abilities year round. And our students needs a place near home to practice and give them the chance to have a place to invite others schools and clubs for competitions.

Marcia Wilbur2 years ago I propose a community garden. Currently there is funding for this. We are still considered "distressed" and are eligible. We just need: Space 50% match Apply for funding. https://portal.ct.gov/deep/open-space/urban-green-and-community-garden-grant-programThe city of New London has New London Fresh.This org also conducts workshops about fresh food. A community garden would bring people together and be of great benefit to Norwich!

Marcia Wilbur2 years ago My proposal is for a maker space for residents and citizens of Norwich who are looking to improve their tech skills and work in their field in tech. For example, there are no courses or workshops or training for tech in this town. There are people driving Uber, who complain that there is no funding for workshops. With the remote from home work available from companies, if you had skilled workers in this area, they could work remote from Norwich and bring in six or even seven figure incomes. I know because I work remote from home for Intel currently and have at microchip, Pearson, salesforce, The Department of Education in Arizona, Arizona State University and much much more. Frankly, you aren’t gonna get any people tech in this town for a few reasons… you don’t have much of a Tech community to start with. You don’t have a maker space or places for innovation and tech.The crime that’s an issue. But frankly, you have the infrastructure. If you had skilled workers who knew Linux, embedded you might actually bring in some high value tech companies if you had high value assets with good skills. Create a maker and have someone techworthy running it and you will see a change in the economy eventually with the right people in place. Definitely not current leadership. My father had a speaker wire and speaker manufacturing company back in the 80s that was second to monster cable. With tech and innovation, we can create manufacturing and jobs as well. Give it a thought.

Chris Coutu3 years ago Some of the greatest cities in America have college presence in the center of their cities. A few decades ago Three Rivers Community College almost ended up in downtown Norwich. Now is the time to take a large investment and transform a few buildings into educational centers.This influx of the colleges diverse population would generate a customers to enjoy the restaurants, pubs, library, stores, and future businesses. This will also support new residential housing, the marina, and transportation center.Norwich Public Utilities did push for Norwich to be a Google Wi-Fi hub, but we were not selected. Make down town a WI-FI zone to support the educational and business communities.Downtown Norwich has been blessed to keep much of it's historical look with nice murals. Many other communities have lost this historical image and I know our future is BRIGHT!!!!THINK BIG!!!

Norwich Arts & Culture 3 years ago The City of Norwich Public Art Committee (NPAC) is an ad hoc committee formed to support the Cultural Coalition’s administration of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds from the City of Norwich for investment in arts and culture. The NPAC is looking for artists to share design concepts for a public art project to be located on the roundabout at Franklin Square in downtown Norwich, CTHERE is more information on the Request for Concepts.

Gerald Martin3 years ago Move boat launch out of Howard T Brown Park and move to Shipping ST. The current launch has caused damage to my boat on a couple of outings. Dodging people walking behind and driving behind you while launching and recovering a boat is an accident waiting to happen. Boaters pay yearly registration and taxes on their trailers. Our fishery is under utilized due to location and quality of the current boat launch. Why does Norwich keep shooting itself in the foot? Montville now will have a new launch while Norwich once again misses this opportunity .

Kristen Talley3 years ago Norwich has many great outdoor features. One particular area is Mohegan Park and, close by, basketball courts and a new tennis court being installed, adjacent to the park and middle school. Currently, both sidewalks that could lead to two entrances to Mohegan Park end prematurely. One ends right before McKinley Avenue Extension turns into Reynolds Road and the other stops on Rockwell Street near Sheltering Arms. Both stopping points turn into roads with inclines and blind bends. From there, neither Mohegan Road, Mahan Drive, nor John Edward Drive have sidewalks, also all adjacent thruways to one of our middle schools, in addition to the recreation areas. It can be quite dangerous for walkers, especially all of the foot traffic heading up Reynolds Road including many of the city’s youth as well as students from NFA who access playing fields near the courts. Studying sidewalk installation on Reynolds Road might also have a secondary impact if it were to include a water study based on the homes that were flooded on McKinley Avenue Extension in 2021. Safe access to Norwich’s outdoor public spaces, especially those frequented quite often, would benefit all who use them and increase access.

Beryl Fishbone3 years ago Saw this idea in Conde Nast Traveler 3/23 and thought with the development of hotels, inns and party houses Norwich, CT could become more of a destination with a “Peace and Love” promotion.The article I read was about an actor and a entrepreneur who planned a honeymoon adventure that allowed them to give back. Of course theirs was an exotic African adventure but perhaps Norwich, CT could develop and promote an adventure to improve one or more of our villages or areas.Perhaps help to develop some natural areas along the Thames River Tidal Estuary, or the Shetucket River or the Yantic River? Maybe help a small business develop a boat/rafting/float rental?Maybe encourage one or more of the local bars to change their décor to something regional and fun?To place local crafts for sale on the walls or tables? How about their selling farm to table snacks? Promote the whole package as a lifetime of memories.

Gary Young3 years ago The State of CT wants to install a multitude of roundabouts to help minimize accidents and provide better traffic flow on West Main St. 40 years ago this would have been a brilliant idea - but today it would shut down every business on this street and have a major impact on businesses on the west side of New London Tpke also.Here are two ideas that might help reduce the crazy driving that takes place: 1) Install several low profile speed bumps - relatively inexpensive and they work2) have a minimum of 2 locations (changed on a daily basis) on W Main St where either the State Police or the Norwich City police park and be on the lookout for people who are speeding, changing lanes dangerously. Police presence alone will cause folks to slow down and take it easy and you could do this for 100 years and still save money over having roundabouts.

Gary Young3 years ago To make a long story short - there are several intersections in Norwich that cause un-warranted wait time, traffic back ups, wasted fuel and driver frustration. My thought is this is caused by 99% of traffic lights being controlled by a timer rather than traffic flow. It is understood that some of these intersections are controlled by the state, but if the city could lead the way by installing traffic sensitive lights, the state might follow. An example of a "good" traffic light is at the intersection of Broad St and Broadway. You normally do not wait more than 10 seconds for the light to change. Examples of a "bad" traffic light: 1) At the intersection of Hunters Rd and Rte 12; 2) Turning right out of Walmart...No right turn when you can see 100 yards down the road?? 3) Intersection of Main St, Washington St, Water St, W. Main St...traffic sensitive lights would help control the flow 4) Intersection of Chelsea Harbor Dr and Water St... for folks who want to go straight into downtown this light can be lengthy...and there are more!In addition to traffic sensitive lights in my mind it would make sense to put almost all traffic lights on blinking red or caution after 8pm

Roxanne Cernusca3 years ago I would allocate as much as possible for capital improvements and infrastructure projects, focused on available affordable housing. From small single family starters, to multi-home, and apartments. Efficiency apartments/studio spaces/building units are being redesigned and reimagined as economically cost conscious in many countries.It’s not lost on me the amount of behind the scenes work and factors that are in play to make even the smallest change in our city. It’s so much easier said then done, and that is what a lot of residents may not fully understand.I just want t to highlight the need for housing everywhere in Norwich as a priority.

Contact them and ask the questions was the promotion successful? What criteria of success and failure was used? What worked? What did not work? How were the residents and businesses affected? What were the responses of the residents and businesses?Take for example the “This is Alabama” promotion. “From the sugar white beaches of the Gulf State Park to the pine-covered Southern Appalachians in Little River Canyon, you can take it all in. See - the sunrise spread across the treetops , Smell – the freshness of the loblolly pines, Listen – to the river whispering its secrets.Norwich, CT representatives could work with the State of CT Office of Tourism for/in a similar type of promotion. Certainly not in an identical promotion but in the development of a promotion that is large enough to encompass all of Eastern CT and generic enough make people curious as to what can be found here.The “Other Connecticut” is more than just Norwich, CT.
